The University of Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana is currently flooded after heavy rains hit the Coastal Town yesterday and this morning.
According to students, the rains started around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday and only subsided for a while and continued on Wednesday.
Parts of the university’s campus and some surrounding communities have been rendered inaccessible following the heavy rains. Several structures including students’ residential halls were seriously affected by the floods.
The floods have resulted in a total halt of academic work as student are unable to accessing their lecturer halls.
Reacting to the situation the SRC has issued an official statement. The SRC implored students to stay calm and safe in their hostels regardless of their academic schedule for the day.
The SRC describes the situation as “disastrous and understands that the safety of all of the students is most paramount in this critical dilemma.”
From the very disturbing photos GhPage.com has come across, it is obvious that several properties were destroyed by water which had infiltrated rooms belonging to students.
